We drove through Illinois today. Followed the river south. Such beautiful trees in full bloom all along the way. We discovered a small segment of route 66 that we followed for a few miles. Many small wonderful small towns along the way.In Henry we discovered a very old family cemetery, perhaps Hoyt.
In Springfield Illinois we visited The Abraham Lincoln Museum as well as his tomb. The tomb is the largest I have ever seen, in the middle of a huge cemetery. Inside the monument are buried Lincoln, his wife and their children. It is awe inspiring. We arrived at Mattoon Illinois for the evening. Tomorrow we take off for Kentucky.

Off we go

On Thursday, October 11 my father and I will take off on the road for the final chapter of our search for our ancestors. We have traced the Jett family thought Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma and Iowa. We have now located the very first Jett to be buried in the United States in Mendota, Virginia. This road trip will take us though Missouri, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee. Stay tuned!
